Town of Cornwall
Cornwall is a scenic old town, very rural and sparsely populated. A large summer population visits here, enjoying the pleasant surroundings and tranquility. Of particular scenic note is the red wooden covered bridge at West Cornwall, spanning the Housatonic River and presenting to visitors a glimpse of life in the 1800's.
Cornwall, covering 46.8 square miles, was incorporated in 1740 and today has a population of approximately 1450. Its principal industries are agriculture, tourism and recreation. The town is governed by a Board of Finance, a Board of Selectmen and Town Meeting.
For recreation, Cornwall is the home of the Mohawk State Forest, the Mohawk Ski area (day and night skiing) and the Housatonic River for fishing and boating.
