Appointment of New Leadership for Pupil Services in Region 1 October 12

At a special meeting held on Tuesday, September 21, the Board of Education for Regional School District #1 appointed Martha Schwaikert as the Director of Pupil Services, replacing Carl Gross, who announced his retirement (effective September 30) at the beginning of the month. Ms. Schwaikert has been a teacher in Region One for the past thirty three years. She began her career at Kent Center School 1988. From that time until 2009, she was a special education teacher in Kent, Salisbury and Housatonic Valley Regional School, accomplishing her personal goal of having taught at each grade level in the District. In 2009, she moved into administration and became the Supervisor of Special Education for the District.  On Monday, October 4, 2021, RSD1 BOE appointed Rebecca Gaschel-Clark as the Supervisor of Special Education, the position vacated by Ms. Schwaikert.
