Housatonic Valley Regional High School Announces New Assistant Principal

Housatonic Valley Regional High School Announces New Assistant Principal

Falls Village, Connecticut (June 11, 2018) - After an extensive search and interview process, Mr. Steven Schibi has been selected to serve as the next Assistant Principal at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
More than 25 candidates applied for the position. Four candidates were selected for interviews, which included teachers, central office administrators, parents, board members, and students. The candidates observed classrooms, and in a simulation, provided feedback regarding the teaching and learning they observed. Two of the candidates were invited back for a second interview with administrators and the Region One Board chair. After the final interviews, along with extensive reference checks, it was clear that Steve Schibi was the candidate of choice.

Steve Schibi is currently Dean of Students at Region 10 Schools at Lewis Mills High School and has been in this position since 2012. His responsibilities include monitoring student discipline, leading the Student Assistance Team and School Climate Team, leading PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) and serving as Class Advisor. Steve is from Burlington, where he lives with Suzanne, his wife of 24 years, and his two sons, Josh (17) and Jon (13).

Prior to his position at Lewis Mills, he was a Wellness teacher, Capstone teacher, and Department Chair for the Wellness, Science and Math Departments at Shepaug Valley High School from 1997 until 2012.

Steve had these words to say: “I am very excited and feel honored to become part of the Housatonic family. My experiences have allowed me to grow as an educator and a leader. I look forward to continuing my growth at Housatonic Valley Regional High School as well as helping the students and staff continue to grow and flourish in a positive environment. The Housatonic community is a special one and in one of the most beautiful settings in which I feel thrilled to be a part of. I look forward to meeting as many students, staff and community members as possible in the next couple of months. Thank you for the opportunity to make your high school even more special than it already is.”

His two Master degrees are from Central Connecticut State University. His graduate programs of study were Outdoor Adventure Education and Educational Leadership. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded membership in the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.

“The experiences and skills that Steve has to offer will be most welcome in Region One. His connections with students, the Student Assistance Team, and understanding and helping to lead the SRBI (Scientifically Researched based Intervention) process will be invaluable. He has high expectations for students and enjoys working with youth, which is of utmost importance. Recommendations from administrators who have worked with Steve stated that he is a team player, known for his strong drive, compassion, and always keeps kids in mind. Said one administrator, “He energizes the students and they really respect him”. Our students deserve a leader with these qualities and we very much welcome him to our school. “I believe that Steve will be a great asset and work very closely alongside Mr. Ian Strever, our new Principal,” said Dr. Pam Vogel, Superintendent of Region One Schools.

Steve Schibi will begin his role as HVRHS Assistant Principal at the beginning of the new school year on July 1, 2018. The Region One Board of Education will hold a special meeting to approve the recommendation for Mr. Schibi for the Assistant Principal position.

There will be a Meet and Greet this Wednesday, June 13 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the HVRHS Cafeteria. All students, staff, parents and community are invited to attend.
