Region One Welcomes a New Supervisor of Special Education

Falls Village, Connecticut - The Region One Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley Holmes as the new Supervisor, Special Education in Region One. Ms. Holmes appointment is the result of a search conducted by the 11-member Search Committee, consisting of Board of Education members from three districts (Salisbury Central, Region One and Lee H. Kellogg), administrators (Salisbury Central, Kent Center and Lee H. Kellogg Schools) and Pupil Services staff and led by Lisa Carter, the Region 1 Superintendent. 


Ms. Holmes was chosen from a small pool of well-qualified candidates. She spent the first three years of her career as a special education teacher at North Canaan Elementary School. Her experience also includes time in the NWR7, New Hartford and LEARN districts. She has worked with students and staff from grades K-12. She holds a Liberal Arts Bachelor's degree from Kaplan University, a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, Special Education from the University of Connecticut and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Bridgeport. Most recently, Ms. Holmes completed the Aspiring Leaders in Special Education program offered by the University of Connecticut.


Superintendent Carter expressed that she is excited to welcome Ms. Holmes’s return to Region One “Not only is Ms. Holmes an excellent educator and leader, but she has experience and relationships with Region One families and staff ”. Pat Mechare, the Chairperson of the Region One Board of Education stated “We all welcome Ashley Holmes back to Region One.  We look forward to her long and fruitful relationship with the District as its new Supervisor of Special Education.


When asked about her new role Ms. Holmes said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to support Region One families and students and thrilled my story has come full circle.”  


Ms. Holmes will begin her work in Region One on July 1, 2023.
